Kitty

Little, furry, black cat
sitting on my front step
you trip me up with love.
Curling and swirling around my ankles
like a miniature ocean tide
imperiously, you meow for me to pick you up
only to then wiggle from my grasp.
Why can't you make up your mind?
Little, furry black cat
you always lounge in doorways
posed like a tiny panther rug.
I wonder what you're thinking
when you're staring at the ceiling
with such ferocious intent.
Sometimes it creeps me out
when your eyes follow something that isn't there.
Little, furry, black cat
It's always so terrific
that you're waiting on my front step
when I come home from work each day,
And, oh, how much I love you
when you climb up in my arms
to tuck your head beneath my chin,
and purr yourself to sleep.

Kalidescope Shattered

Black stars on a white sky
tired eyes see the world in reverse,
all the strangeness turned inside out
on display for all to see.
The air turns to acid and burns lungs
exhaling in an attempt to breath
tears shall cry
tormented irises that fall to Space
in a drowning rain of glee.
Their chattering laughter is enough,
or nearly so,
to drive a mad man sane.
Story book picture landscape
hangs in broken panes,
mountains bleeding into sky
Both flat againt the twighlight horizon.
And while this world comes to end
A woman stands watching her crying daughter,
who cradles her broken toy,
and tells her "We will get another."
But the girl knows it would not be the same.
