Davey's Deep

A slip and a stumble,
and suddenly I tumble
into the gaping maws of sleep.
Where all of my dreams
are of swift running streams
and of drowning in the deep.

And while I feel my breath breaking
I'm so afraid of waking
to find the world is just the same.
That I'm just a shadow,
a soul that's sunken so low
that's utterly biddable and tame.

There are no longings for freedom
Nor a heart to dream them
having been left broken on the shore.
So, if you'll kindly just leave me
to my drifting in the deep sea,
I'll bother you no more.

Very interesting, daughter dear.
But, the message is unclear
and a deeper meaning-- I fear,
this joyous season of the year.

In your sense of drifting
Is your soul from body sifting,
Can, at all, I be uplifting
To you in anyway?

Please call me if you need to,
Or call me if you feel blue
Or call me if you need to,
Know I love you.
